Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major Control Tower IT Issue
Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were halted because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.
Flights Resume with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services experiencing delays.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the latest information on their specific flights," officials reiterated.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.
Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
