This race had been anticipated as one of the stronger runnings of this distinctive seven-furlong contest for fillies and mares. Yet, veterinary inspections resulted in multiple withdrawals this morning, such as top contenders Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

As a result, the lineup looks much smaller, though trainer Bob Baffert stands a strong chance to claim his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners feature Richi and Splendora, whereas Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is viewed as the primary threat.
